In local tradition, höşmerim is also prepared for women in the postpartum period to support milk production. A widely told local narrative explains the origin of the dessert’s name as follows: A woman wishes to prepare a meal for her husband returning from military service; however, she has only flour and milk at hand. She combines and cooks them, sprinkles sugar on top, and serves the dish. Anxiously, she asks her husband, “Is it pleasant, my dear? Is it pleasant?” (Hoş mu erim?), seeking his approval. It is believed that the dessert derives its name from this expression.
