Flour is dry-roasted in a pan or oven until lightly browned. After adding sugar and water—alternatively prepared with molasses or honey syrup—the mixture is stirred continuously until it reaches a pudding-like consistency, then transferred to a serving dish. If desired, melted butter may be drizzled over the top before serving.
