Overview
Karatepe, 5 km south of Polatlı district
center, has a vantage point open in all directions.
It was used as a castle between 1400-
1500 though there are no ruins of it. What
makes this hill important for people today
is that it changed hands seven times in the
Battle of Sakarya. With the loss of Duatepe
and Kartaltepe on 31 August 1921, Karatepe
was occupied by the enemy. The hill, which
changed hands many times until 13 September,
hosted many battles.
