Overview
The monument is in Şehitlerkaşıtepe in
Polatlı. The body of the monument starts at
an altitude of 915 meters and goes up to 970
meters. You need to climb to a height of approximately
55 meters by stairs to reach the
monument. In the beginning, the stairs are
quite steep, space between the columns are
narrow. However, as you progress, climbing
up the stairs gets easier. In this climb, the difficulties
on the first days of the war were expressed
with steep stairs, and the ease of the
stairs after a while represents the victory of
the war. Besides, the tough steps of the stairs
symbolise the anxiety of both the armed forces
and the state of the nation after the Ottoman
Empire was defeated in the First World
War. With the decrease in the inclination of
the stairs, the enlargement of the pillars and
the widening between them express the new
power created by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in
Anatolia and the enlightenment of the dark
horizon as a result of this power.
